MINIMUM WAGE/REMUNERATION IN NEPAL (Gazette Published on 3rd May 2021)
The Government of Nepal, Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security, under Sub-section (3) of Section 106 of the Labor Act 2074 (2017), has recently revised the specification of minimum wages/remuneration for workers/employees other than tea estate by publishing a notice in Nepal Gazette Part 5 Volume 71 on May 3 2021 (2078-01-20). This latest specification shall be effective from July 16, 2021 (2078-04-01).
- In addition to the Minimum Wage/ Remuneration specified above, facilities including Provident Fund and Gratuity provided under Labor Act 2074, the Contribution Based Social Security Act 2074 and other prevailing law should be provided.
- If otherwise, the local level body or any other governmental body under law of the country have been delegated power to determine minimum wage/ remuneration under Section 13 of Local Government Operation Act 2074 (2017), such body shall determine the wage/remuneration not lesser than the specification abovementioned.
- No employment agreement shall be concluded provisioning less wage/ remuneration than the above specification.
- PART A (Minimum Wage/Remuneration for workers/employees other than tea estate) of the notice published in Nepal Gazette Part 5 Volume 68 on August 16, 2018 (2075-04-31) by the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security shall be repealed.
